Important Information

Dear CEH-C participants & guests,

We are delighted to inform you that the final and updated program for the Central European History Convention (CEH-C)has been uploaded to our website. We invite you to take a look and explore the exciting lineup of keynotes, roundtables, panels, poster presentations, and research lab events scheduled for July 17–19.

As you’ll see, there have been several changes from the preliminary version — so it’s worth reviewing the current schedule carefully. To help you navigate the packed program and make informed choices, we’ve also published all presentation abstracts (organized by panel) on the website. Additionally, you’ll find a shorter, easy-to-read overview version of the program that will help you plan your days more easily.

Some readers will notice occasional small typos — such as “12am” instead of “12pm.” Please rest assured we do not intend for any sessions to run past midnight! These little glitches are reminders that this is a human endeavor. We appreciate your understanding.

Important:

If you would like to attend the evening events, please make sure to register for them separately. Being registered for the convention or listed in the program does not automatically register you for these events. We need an accurate headcount for planning purposes, so please double-check that you’ve selected the appropriate boxes.

If you’re participating in a panel, you should have received detailed emails with instructions regarding panel structure and pre-conference tasks. If you haven’t seen these, please check your spam or junk mail folder. If they’re not there either, let us know and we’ll resend them right away.

Arrival & On-Site Information

The registration desk will open at 8:00 am on Thursday, July 17, in the Entrance Hall of the University of Vienna, and remain open throughout the convention. Please register before attending any events.

The final pages of the overview program contain campus maps to help you navigate the charming but labyrinthine Ringstrasse building. If in doubt, ask! Our registration staff are happy to assist — including with luggage storage on your final day and guidance on elevator or step-free access routes.

You’ll recognize conference staff by their branded T-shirts — feel free to approach them at any time with questions or requests.

A Word of Thanks

The team at the University of Vienna’s Institute of Austrian Historical Research has worked tirelessly for months to bring this convention to life. Please join us in thanking them for their extraordinary efforts. Their dedication reflects a remarkable commitment to fostering intellectual exchange across the regions of the former Habsburg lands — and beyond.

We are confident that the conference will reflect their spirit: collegial, thoughtful, and open to the kinds of conversations that make historical scholarship vital and exciting.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

All our best – bis bald!

CEH-C July 17th—19th 2025

In July 2025 the University of Vienna and the Institute of Austrian Historical Research will

host the first Central European History Convention (CEH-C). This event is dedicated to

providing a platform for exchange on Central European History from the late medieval

period to the mid-20th century, with a focus on the lands of the former Habsburg Empire

and its neighbors (including the territories of the former Ottoman empire).
